Cunda Despot House Hotel

Cunda Despot House

Cunda Despot House is a restored historical building in Ayvalik, Turkey, brought back into use as a hotel. The main building and its cistern were repaired with respect for the original materials and construction techniques. Later additions were removed, and old paint and plaster were cleaned. Wooden floors, doors, windows and the staircase were rebuilt in accordance with the originals, and the foundation and structural system were reinforced. The main building holds twenty rooms, while a restaurant, a spa and pools support the hotel function.

Cunda Despot House Hotel by Isil Gencoglu Tasar has been highlighted as a creative illustration of communication design by the A' Design Awards. Cunda Despot House Hotel won the Golden A' Design Award in Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry Design in 2020. The A' Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design competition which recognizes excellent design of cultural heritage projects, cultural conversation, preservation, restoration and protection projects, heritage architecture and more.
